Greenore Historical Society in conjunction with Colum Corrigan of LMFM produced a documentary which was broadcast on the 31st of December 2008 “Down the Beaten Track” which concerned the closure of the Dundalk Newry & Greenore Railway. Local contributors relayed their memories of growing up in Greenore a unique self-contained Victorian Railway Village and the effects the closure in 1952, had on the immediate Village area and indeed the entire Cooley Peninsula.
This year we have produced a documentary on Carlingford Loughs worst shipping tragedy, that of the Connemara Retriever collision on the 3rd of November 1916 with the loss of 94 lives and only one survivor. This programme was again produced in conjunction with Colum Corrigan of LMFM, Greenore Historical, Holyhead Maritime Museum, with contributions from Sean Patterson, and those within the communities of Greenore, Holyhead, Greencastle, Kilkeel, Newry, Dundalk, Monaghan, the Cooley Peninsula and a number of those representing the families of the lost throughout Ireland and Wales.
Both of these programmes will be broadcast over the Festive season and well worth tuning in to.
- Down the Beaten Track will be broadcast at 7pm on Christmas Day
- The Connemara / Retriever documentary will be broadcast on the Bank Holiday Monday, December the 28th at 1.15pm.
