For Immediate Release
Date: 14th January 2010
St Patricks Day Parade Marches forward with welcomed community involvement.
Dundalk’s parade committee aim to surpass last years “Personal Best” of 30,000 spectators. 2010 sees bigger and better plans and the involvement of DKIT students in the organisation of the parade brings a more innovative approach to the celebrations.
The theme for this year’s parade is “Sport and Culture” and it will be held on Wednesday 17th March 2010 commencing at 1pm.
Dundalk which is known as the land of legends is set to live up to its title, encouraging participants to highlight past and present events within the community that have impacted on “Irish Culture”. Sport is a major asset to the town and has the potential to become one of the main generators of tourism in Co. Louth. The committee are calling on the sporting community to participate in this year’s parade.
Although times are tough and resources are tight, it is during these times where creativity will flow and communities pull together. It is a great opportunity for local businesses to benefit from the parade, given last years turnout, and they are encouraged to keep their doors open for business on the day. As always donations and sponsorship are welcomed and are essential for the future of the parade in Dundalk.
Entertainment within the town centre will be the best yet with live bands, children’s entertainment, street performers and street traders.
Speaking about this year’s parade, Bill Tosh Chairman of Dundalk Chamber of Commerce said “This year’s parade is an event which is organised by the community, for the community”
Closing date for applications is Friday 26th February.
